DIY Purple Denim.

What to do on Saturday afternoon but to cut up some old denim threads whilst dreaming of finer weather. For this project I used an old pair of Cotton On jeans which I picked up for $10 on sale ages back. 

The method:

Basically I tried on the jeans, drew where I wanted the hole to be, took off the jeans (obviously!), cut between the lines, next I got out a grater and de-stressed the edges to rough em up a bit and added some safety pins and studs. EASY! Under 30 minutes of DIY magic. Please do try this at home!

To complement my newly re-invented jeans I wore my WindsorSmith wedges (a definite season must have), a thrifted patterned blouse and a vintage swede jacket.

If you are getting tired of your old daggy jeans, re invent them! If you're wanting to add studs buy a cheap studded belt and take off the studs using a knife (thats what I do). I still haven't perfected the perfect de-stressed fraying but I will get there one day, one pair of jeans at a time!

Sometimes Its Good To Copy.

        

The pink elephant purse was a gift from my sister, she bought it when she went overseas. It comes from either Thailand or Vietnam but I can't remember which! I love how it is a token Asian souvenir and who can go past the amazingly vibrant colour?
Along side the imported purse I am wearing a thrifted blue singlet, patterned Supre skirt, handmade chain necklace, a Target watch and MAC "Amplified Girl About Town" lip stick.
On my feet I am wearing my Balmain rip-offs from Novo, I wore these shoes with my formal dress which is inspired by Balmain's Spring 09. I fell in love with the idea of the mullet dress and to this day I still adore them! So glamorous and intense. Awesome!

With the help of a God like seamstress we constructed my blue mullet masterpiece. It's name is the "Maurem Mullet" (Maureen and Emma squished together) and it now lives in an old vintage hat box neatly rapped in purple tissue. The dress took a couple of months to complete and I can't believe the savings! Instead of a $15,000 dress I made mine for under $200!
Balmain is definitely my all time favourite designer and I will forever pursue my dream of purchasing my very own piece of Balmain magic.

Hello My Name Is Puss.

  
What to do when you are land locked at your home? You get your craft on of course!

Today was another "snow day" for me as all the roads outbound from my house were and are still currently inundated with water. I did attempt to get to work but turned around when the roads got too scary.

So what to craft when you have ALL day open to you? A lovely cat cushions from Pip Lincolne's book "Meek me at Mike's", obviously!. Constructing this beauty took most of the morning but I really underestimated the time it took to stuff the thing. It takes a lot of time. I named her Puss after my real life cat and can't wait to hand the cushion version over to my unsuspecting friend. It is a very, very belated birthday present. Happy Birthday!

DIY tights.

Hello all! I apologize for the non existent posts over the last couple of weeks but it couldn't be helped. Put simply my time was spent grieving with my family and friends so I was just too busy. 

These photos were taken with the help of my sister a while back (I gave the tripod a day off). The series showcases an outfit I wore to my friends birthday dinner. I am wearing the following; a vintage cream jacket, my Dad's Jimmy Hendrix T, a black mini skirt, Sportsgirl "LOVE" necklace, Zula heels, black socks and my DIY shredded tights.

To make your own pair of ripped punk inspired tights you will need a pair of tights (preferably thin ones with a low denier count) and some sandpaper. The method is quite simple put on the tights and start creating holes and ladders with the sand paper. I used a circular motion to create the circle holes and a downwards sweeping motion to create the ladders. You can shred as little or a lot, depending on your style. TIP you can use your old tights to save some dollars. Happy creating!

I'm off on a road trip tomorrow, hurray! Pyramid Rock festival here I come! I'm very excited as I received a new camera for Christmas and can't wait to snap up the awesome festival fashion. It will be a feast for my eyes.

I was who I am

 Tonight I went for dinner with my lovely girlfriends to discuss our New Years plans. Hurray! I am so excited! The holiday season is fast approaching and the my whole vibe is fully pumped. Three days of awesome festival fashion, sick beats and drinks with friends. What better way to spend ones time during the silly season?
I wore this outfit down the the local Pub, it comprises of thrifted shoes, Sportsgirl denim cut-offs, a thrifted leopard print T, a vintage blue jacket and brown purse. In my hair a I wearing a handcrafted demented flower which I made out of scrap floral material and an odd blue flower button. I simply cut out two short skinny strips of fabric, folded them in half  to look like the Pink Ribbon symbol then sewed together with a small folded (extra) piece of fabric on the back (this is to enable the flower to be threaded onto a hair pin), for more detail I then added a button. To finish just thread it on to a bobby pin and pop it into your hair. Easy!

DIY Distressed Denim Threads.

I was twiddling my thumbs on Saturday morning and decided I should get my craft on. I am always a fan of ripped, grungy threads so I thought I would add some detailing to an old pair of black skinnies. The initial design features were inspired by Dylana however the studs and ties just evolved.

To make a pair of your own you will need the following:

First of all you need to pop your jeans on and mark were you want to cut using a dress makers pencil, I just marked above and below my knees and below one bum cheek.
Once jeans are marked up its time a cut, make sure your cuts are crooked and jaggered so that the distressing process is more speedy. With some cuts I cut a small rectangle so that you could see more skin.
Next its time to attack your denim with a cheese grater using the finer grater side in a circular or random motion. Tip: place a piece of cardboard between the layers so you don't cut through the other side of your pants.
Now its time to embellish! Using the scraps from the rectangle cut outs, make ties to distinguish the cuts and show more skin. I also added studs from an old belt I had lying around to add a bit of punk glamor.
All in all this project took roughly half an hour and was super easy! Try it out your self and send me the pics. I'd love to see your handy work!

A part from the jeans I am wearing a thrifted floral blouse and metalic gold T and Whittner brogues.

FYI the first photo was taken after I made the distressed jeans as I was experiencing a rush of creative inspiration at the time, no time for shots you see! So those pictured jeans are my trusty black nudies, I could never cut those.

I'm in the mood for some DIY

I stumbled on this tutorial the other day and thought I might share it with you. It has inspired me to create some knee high detailed socks using the same idea. You can find the entire tute here from the Cocorosa blog.
They are a DIY version of Miu Miu embellished tights and I will post photos when I start and finish this mini project! Stay tuned.

Inspiring? Yes. Amazing? Yes. Stylish? I think so.

Leopard print and floral blouses, good times all round

 Here I am wearing a vintage floral blouse, vintage leopard print sunnies, the bow necklace I crafted myself and DIY denim shorts.

To get the look of the distressed denim I used a cheese grater, scissors and a coarse sand paper. Hopefully after a few washes the bottom of the shorts will fray up nicely. Another tip too, I used the studs off an old studded belt that was laying around. So all up these shorts, which are Levis', cost me under $5.00. Fashion DIY on a budget. I like it.
